About Me

Air National Guard

When I wasn't sure exactly how I was going to pay for college, all roads sort of pointed me in the direction of the Air National Guard. Where I grew up in New Lisbon is only about 10 minutes from the base, so it seemed like a good choice to help me out. Though I initially joined for the school benefits, I quickly learned that I really enjoyed what the military had to offer.

I started as a Surveillance Technician and my job was to detect, report, track and identify all aircraft in a specific area of responsibility. I soon upgraded positions and I am now an Interface Control Technician. I get to work with tactical data links and get the encrypted networks up and running that our air, land, and sea platforms communicate on.

I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting myself into, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made. It has given me skills and job knowledge, helped me pay for college, led me to my current job, and allowed me to build relationships that will last a lifetime.

Balancing School, Work, and Family

I had two and a half years of college completed when I realized I didn't know what I wanted to do for a job when the time came. I didn't really like what I was going for and college was not the answer at that moment in time. A job opened up, so I applied and ended up getting it, which made me decide to quit going to college for the time being.

Once I decided to go back to school, I quickly learned it was very tough to balance everything on my plate. I was working 40 hours a week, taking 6-9 credits at a time, and still trying to have a social life. It was a very challenging thing that I just recently feel like I figured out.

Now that I have my own little family, I have made it much more of a priority to really focus on my time management. My new routine and time management skills has led to less stress, better grades, and more quality time with family.
